The Summersworth Historical Society was founded in 1975 by a small group of citizens interested in preserving the history of Somersworth. The Historical Society has had many temporary homes over the years. Meetings were held in the library, the high school and even in a real estate office on Rt. 108. Through the generosity of the city of Somersworth, the Society found a permanent home in the old municipal building at 157 Main Street. The museum was established and has thrived since the year 2002.
The purpose of the Summerworth Historical Society is to preserve artifacts, documents, photos, and memorabilia all pertaining to the city of Somersworth.
